Holidays with a dog in Seefeld: paths, rules and places to swim
A plateau with soft forest ground, a lake with its own dog area and walking trails straight from the door: what Seefeld offers dogs – and what you should know about grazing cattle and wildlife sanctuaries.
Seefeld is a good place for dogs, and that has less to do with individual offers than with geography. The plateau is spacious, the paths are mostly soft – forest floor, meadow tracks, gravel rather than asphalt – and you do not have to drive anywhere first. The first kilometres begin outside the front door.
Where you can walk
Circuit around the Wildsee. Four kilometres, flat, ten minutes' walk from the village square. The standard round, morning and evening.
Wildmoos. Wide open ground, little traffic, plenty of space. Note: grazing land – more on that below.
Gaistal in the Leutasch valley. For long days. A broad, quiet valley with alpine huts at the end, hardly any climbing and plenty of water along the way.
Winter. Most of the 142 kilometres of winter walking trails are good with a dog. Cross-country trails, by contrast, are off limits – the region has designated dog trails for that purpose.
Swimming
The Strandperle at the Wildsee has its own dog area. That is not a given in Tirol, and it is the reason we have so many guests with dogs in summer.
Two rules that are meant seriously
Grazing cattle. In summer there are cows on the alpine pastures around Wildmoos and in the Gaistal, often with calves. Dogs belong on a short lead there, and herds should be given a wide berth – around them, not through them. If a mother cow charges: let the dog off the lead and move away yourself, quickly. That is the official recommendation of the Tyrolean alpine farming association, and it saves lives.
Wildlife sanctuaries. In winter the surrounding woods are refuge areas for red and roe deer. Every disturbance costs the animals energy reserves they cannot replace. So: stay on the marked paths, snowshoeing included.
What we have prepared
Dogs are welcome with us; we charge 20 euros per day, food not included. There is a dog blanket in the room, and a dedicated area in the restaurant so your dog can be with you at breakfast and dinner. We arrange dog sitters on request – for the day you would like to visit the Ghost Gorge, where dogs do not fare well on the metal walkways.

Good to know
To enter Austria your dog needs an EU pet passport with a valid rabies vaccination and microchip identification.
